Who here has done their own convertible top without using Al Knoch video? How difficult is it compared doing the windshield doors or dash? Or other long installation (mini-projects)? I have confidence with my skills just want to know if this is something I could tackle myself is all.Its really not all that difficult,i learned from my first install. You just need to take your time and double and triple check everything. Major thing is to ensure your frame is inline before even beginning. I have the videos on my computer that I followed step by step.

Doing the last of the painting on the top frame. I removed all of the tack strips and ready to install the new strips as soon as some of the hardware arrives. I am string to complete the list before the next car show. I need to adjust the passenger side door post since i replaced the windshield and it is a better fit so the door post needs to go in slightly. My list of to do's has gotten shorter: 1. Install the tack strips. Assemble convertible top frame when all of the parts arrive.
Re-install new kick panel wind laces. Old ones were cut too short. Re-install console trim. Check generator and wiring to check why it is not charging.
Install convertible top frame. Install soft top pads and cover. Charge battery. Remove radio and fix radio light. Light wire came undone. Wire top speaker. Install wiper motor if restoration is completed by then.
Install wiper arms and blades. Figure out why the speedometer cable is binding up. Install nylon locking nuts on the strut arms. Check all of the fasteners on the chassis.
Lube chassis. Re-install kick panels.
Re-install heater cover and package tray. Re-install sill plates. Insulate the power leads to the coil.
Re-install ignition shielding. Organize trunk and re-install tail light lead covers. Clean and polish the car. Find the rear squeak. Check fluids. Check the air in the spare.
Add add'l fusing to prevent short circuits/fires.search for a thread with my name titled 'C1 fuse points'.THEN drive and have fun!That's extra stuff in the trunk. Extra fuses, wire and connectors. Yeah, I already done all of the extra fuses. Last week, I found out why my fuel gauge was not working properly. The ground in the housing was weak or non-existent. I cleaned up the point of contact and now I have a good reading.
Its the small things that can bite you. I must have bought two gauges and two sending units before I decided I should have bench tested with a 12 volt source first. Took the gauge out. I made some jumpers then bench tested the gauge and fuel sending unit. The sending unit and gauge was working fine. Now, I have an extra fuel gauge and sending unit. Moved the float and fuel gauge needle would move.
Simple test and should have figured out that the extra paint was preventing the ground on back of the housing.
